Melvin Jorgensen
Melvin has spent seven years at Robison, and 16 in the district, bringing a strong background in teaching and coaching. A Tucson native, Melvin says his passion for sports has shaped his career. “I’ve just enjoyed sports my whole life and can’t wait to give back to the kids in this community.”
At Robison, he values the people and the energy students bring every day. “The whole school community is amazing. All the teachers, all the support staff, everybody here is incredible. We put the kids first,” he said. “They come into P.E. class excited to be here, to get to move, and we have a great time.”
In addition to P.E., Melvin supports students through RTI, working with small groups to build reading and math skills. “We’re really focused and individualized to the student’s needs to help them progress,” he explained. “It’s a nice way for the kids to feel comfortable, celebrate their successes, and see them improve.”
For Melvin, physical education goes beyond sports. “P.E. isn’t about training athletes, it’s about training kids to love movement and physical education that they can have for a lifetime,” he said. “You learn problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, and leadership skills all while enjoying it.”
Outside the classroom, Melvin enjoys traveling and staying active. He often shares workout videos from his travels and local hikes with students to encourage them to stay active. “You can get out into nature, have a great time, and experience activities for free.”
